OSEA Malibu’s Anti-Aging Body Balm promises to be a rich anti-aging organic body serum that uses certified organic ingredients to tighten, soften, and hydrate the skin. At $48 for the bottle, the Anti-Aging Body Balm is definitely a luxury purchase. Does this body balm live up to its promise? Is the Anti-Aging Body Balm really a hydrating body product for all skin types? Is it greasy? Does it work on very dry skin? What about sensitive skin? To answer these and many other questions, the Skin Care Ox team tested the OSEA Anti-Aging Body Balm for two weeks. During the review period, we spent time researching every ingredient, using the product faithfully, and analyzing real online customer reviews to create this comprehensive review.

All in all, the Anti-Aging Body balm is a great treat for dry, parched skin. While we can’t speak to the claims of this body balm being a “Holy Grail” for anti-aging, we can attest to softer, brighter, and more hydrated looking skin from head to toe. It’s a rich, serum-like texture that absorbs beautifully into damp skin–but needs a little work when applying to super dry skin. The formula is as clean as they come–made with tons of certified organic ingredients and very little fillers. If were no budget issue, then this would definitely be the product of choice for daily use; however, if budget is a concern, then the Anti-Aging Body Balm can also be used as a weekly overnight body treat (to help make the product stretch and last longer).

Below, you’ll find a complete summary of our in-depth review of OSEA Malibu’s Anti-Aging Body Balm. Our reviews are organized into three categories: The Clean Ingredient Score (is the product made with clean ingredients?), Product Design & Effectiveness Score (does the product actually work?), and the Online Customer Review Score (what is everyone else saying?). Combined, this review should provide everything you need to decide if the Anti-Aging Body Balm is right for your skin. Enjoy!

Osea Malibu’s Anti-Aging Body Balm organic body lotion earns a score of an “A” for our Clean Ingredient Score. The formula for this body lotion is non-gmo, vegan, gluten-free, and cruelty free. The Anti-Aging Body Balm contains 22 ingredients made up of 15 organic ingredients, 21 natural ingredients, and 1 synthetic emollient (octyldodecanol, a long-chain fatty alcohol used as a lubricant, EWG Score: 1). Additionally, many of the organic ingredients are listed towards the top of the ingredient label; with organic coconut oil and organic safflower oils being the first two ingredients on the list. A very clean formula with 100% of the ingredients receiving a safety score of (1) by the Environmental Working Group.

Clean Ingredient Summary

Top Clean Ingredients

  • Algae Extract: Chlorophyll containing ocean dwelling organisms. Contains a plethora of potent vitamins, minerals, and nutrients. Known for its ability to help skin retain a lot of moisture (an alternative to hyaluronic acid). For this body oil, Osea Malibu uses a brown marine algae named Undaria Pinnatifida that is rich in iodine, potassium, calcium, and fucoidan (a compound used for its healing properties).
  • Acai Pulp Oil: A fast absorbing, antioxidant-rich oil derived from cold-pressed acai berry seeds. Commonly used in skin care and cosmetics for its emollient, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-aging properties.
  • Passion Fruit Seed Oil: Derived from the seeds of passion fruit, this oil is used in skin care primarily because it contains high concentrations of anti-aging vitamins such as vitamins C and vitamin A.

Preservatives Used:

  • Tocopherol/vitamin E: Natural | EWG Score: 1
  • Rosemary Leaf Extract: Natural | Preservative | Antioxidant | EWG Score: 1

Overall, the Anti-Aging Body Balm earns a Product Design & Effectiveness Score of an “A.” First things first with this body balm, it is best used on slightly damp skin (following a shower, for example). When used on freshly showered skin, this serum-like formula absorbs effortlessly; however, when we attempted to use the Anti-Aging Body Balm on very dry skin, it had a harder time absorbing quickly. This is actually true for many body serums and body oils. Additionally, the bottle feels small for a body product (each tester used 50% or more of the bottle during the two week trial). Other than that, the Anti-Aging Body Balm received high scores across the board. The formula is pretty lightweight, but still nourishing enough to keep dry skin moisturized all day. It’s non-greasy, but does leave a light “glow” on the skin. When used on damp skin, the formula spreads well–meaning you don’t have to use a lot of product to cover your whole body. Coconut oil is the first ingredient for this product, so those who worry about clogged pores (or those who typically avoid coconut oil) may find this lotion to be comedogenic.  The scent is very subtle, yet difficult to describe–like a mix between citrus and basil. Our two week trial of the Anti-Aging Body Balm wasn’t enough to really test the product’s anti-aging properties, but reviewers did report improvements such as “brighter”, “softer,” and “tighter” looking skin.

Claims Not Met

  • Fine Lines & Wrinkles: We did not trial this product long enough to test the Anti-Aging Body Balm’s claims of diminishing fine lines & wrinkles. The formula does contain ingredients known to tighten skin and boost elasticity; however, we cannot speak to these claims specifically.

Across all retailers we analyzed, the Anti-Aging Body Balm earns an Online Customer Review score of 4.7/5 stars. Our team analyzed 264 customer reviews for the Osea Malibu Anti-Aging Body Balm body moisturizer from 7 different online retailers (including stores like Blue Mercury, Follain, Detox Market, Credo, and Petit Vour). Overall, reviews for this body lotion were generally positive and echoed similar experiences to our own in-house trial. On the positive side, reviewers loved the texture of the Anti-Aging Body Balm (something between a serum and an oil) and how much more hydrating it is than a traditional lotion. There were many reviewers who claimed to have eczema and were able to use the Anti-Aging Body Balm to treat their eczema symptoms. Most positive reviews include notes about the Anti-Aging Body Balm being “very hydrating,” “great for dry skin,” and “very rich.” While the vast majority of reviews were positive, there were a few notable critical reviews across all sites. Those reviews included notes about broken pump dispensers, the product not absorbing well into their skin, the size of the product not warranting the price, and not being hydrating enough for very dry skin or dry climate. See Pros & Cons below for more details.
